Find Your Why, But Don’t Stop There

“Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something we love is called purpose.” – Simon Sinek
Do you know your Why? This question has become part of our cultural lexicon, largely thanks to Simon Sinek’s work - Start With Why, Find Your Why, and his team’s global movement. And for good reason: it invites us to reconnect to what drives us, rather than just what pays us. But as someone who’s spent years supporting leaders through reinvention, I have learned that finding your Why is only the beginning. The real transformation? It happens when you take that Why… and build something with it.
Going Deeper Into the Work
A while ago, I had the opportunity to spend time with Simon Sinek’s team, going beyond the theory and immersing myself in the process, not just to get clarity but to find alignment. Through this experience, I refined my WHY, uncovered my HOWs, and, perhaps most powerfully, articulated something called a Just Cause. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, a Just Cause is: a specific vision of a future state so appealing that people are willing to make sacrifices to help achieve it. It’s not just your personal purpose - it’s your public stand for what could be possible.
My Just Cause
I believe in a world where unfulfilled potential and burnout are things of the past. In this emerging future, people come to work not to survive but to ignite their inner brilliance. They feel energized, inspired, and driven by purpose, not pressure. This isn’t just about “doing what you love.” It’s about creating systems, cultures, and inner lives that are sustainable, empowering, and human.
My WHY
I unleash people to live fully so they can die empty. When we hold back our voices, our gifts, our truths… the world loses out. When people feel seen, heard, and lit up from within, they become undeniable. They lead differently. They create differently. They live differently.
My HOWs (The Daily Practice of Purpose)
Embrace discomfort: Growth doesn’t come in the comfort zone. I lean in, not away.
Create a win-win-win: If it doesn’t serve me, you, and the greater good, it’s not the right move.
Improve human connection: Relationships aren’t just part of the work - they are the work.
Expand vision, narrow focus: Dream big. Act with intention.
Stay curious: Keep learning and asking questions.
Why This Matters (And Why I'm Sharing It With You)
Too many leaders stop at the Why. They find the language, maybe print it on a card or website… but never live it. But purpose isn’t a tagline. It’s a practice. When we commit to our Just Cause and build a life around our HOWs, we don’t just feel more fulfilled, we create ripple effects that shift teams, cultures, and even systems. So, I’m sharing this not just for visibility, but for accountability. I want you to hold me to this. And if it resonates, I want to support you in doing the same.
If you haven’t found your Why yet or you are ready to go deeper, here are a few prompts to get started:
What breaks your heart about the world today - and what would healing that look like?
What energizes you more than it exhausts you?
What are you willing to stand for, even when it’s inconvenient?
And if you already know your Why… ask yourself:
What’s my Just Cause?
What are my HOWs?
Am I living this - or just naming it?
Finding your why is powerful, but it’s just the spark. The real impact comes when you turn that spark into a vision, a practice, and your life. If you are ready to explore your Why or your What’s Next, I would love to be part of that journey with you. A purpose, when activated, becomes contagious, so let’s build something that lasts.
